FOUR SCHOOLS, ONE COMMUNITY.

The world is a classroom for our children. From birth to age 6, they are learning more than at any other time, so choosing the right educational environment is crucial. Lake Shore Montessori offers four campuses, all located on the beautiful North Shore in Illinois. We offer full and half-day programs, with a wide variety of schedules and enriching options. Our academic year runs from late August through early June.

While we have four different school locations, we all share the same educational philosophy, dedication to the Montessori Method, warm and skilled teachers, and excellent facilities. Review our programs to find the right fit for your child and family during this exciting time of growth and exploration.

PROGRAMS
  • Nido Parent/Child Class (For ages 6 months +)
A unique, intimate experience for caregivers and their children, this class meets weekly with a certified Montessori teacher. Here, children develop thoughtful movement and exploration, while caregivers learn important observational skills and are introduced to the Montessori philosophy.
  • Toddler Class (For 2-3 year olds)
Sometimes the first social setting away from home, the Toddler program fosters the development of young children through a carefully prepared environment. Emphasis is on building sensory motor skills, language, concentration, and coordination of movement, as well as increasing vocabulary and using words to express thoughts and emotions. Students spend time outdoors daily, enjoying equipment for climbing, sliding, digging, and spontaneous play.
  • Primary Class (For 3-6 year olds)
A classic Montessori classroom setting, our Primary Class brings together children ages 3-6, allowing older students to act as role models for their younger classmates, facilitating the establishment of a strong community. The curriculum includes: Practical Life activities to help build a sense of order and develop concentration, coordination, and independence. Favorite activities include dressing frames, food preparation, and window washing. As the name implies, Practical Life activities prepare students to care for themselves, others, and their environment to be successful in life Sensorial activities allow children to discriminate with their many senses, exploring concepts such as large/small, heavy/light, hot/cold. Sensorial activities also provide opportunities to learn about colors and geometric shapes Writing and reading development through oral language opportunities, including listening to stories, reciting poems, and singing songs Introduction and strengthening of math concepts, principles, skills and problem-solving through the manipulation of targeted materials Cultural studies with lessons on history, geography, and science to learn about our world. Each month is dedicated to the exploration of a particular continent, which includes learning about the people, their customs, food, music, art and the physical environment Outdoor Play Time for important physical development and social interaction Enriching art and music classes
  • Pre-K Extended Day (For 4 year olds)
Created specifically for families interested in an afternoon social and academic setting, our extended day offers an enriching Montessori environment for Pre-K aged children. The curriculum may include: Emphasis on reading and writing skills as well as vocabulary building Math concepts reinforced through hands-on activities and independent discovery Exploration of world cultures through the use of globes, maps, money, foods and dance Social Skill development through daily group sharing, discussion time, and highlighting an understanding and respect for all people Enrichment through foreign language, art, gymnastics, yoga and gardening
  • Full Day Kindergarten (For 5-6 year olds)
Lakes Shore Montessori offers the most enriching Kindergarten program on the North Shore – and one we view as pivotal for children at this age. After spending the morning in a multi-age classroom, our 5-6 year olds continue their day enjoying advanced activities and materials specifically for their age group, including important social interactions with their peers. Students are fully prepared for first grade upon completion of our Kindergarten school. The curriculum includes: Multi-age morning program where Kindergartners serve as leaders, role models and mentors for younger classmates Concentration in math, language, geography, history and science The Language and Literacy portion uses units of study and quality children’s literature to inspire young writers, creating activities that support the development of phonemic awareness. Enrichments from gardening and foreign language to yoga and cooking Study of the basics in art, (including collage, paint and history) culminating in a field trip to the Art Institute of Chicago Robust music studies including instruments and basic music theory, ending with a Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert Important social interactions, including negotiating, partnering, and managing relationships, and preparing them for school outside of Lake Shore Montessori

Cantor Jay O’Brien joins the classroom each Friday to celebrate Shabbat with the students. The children are taught Hebrew by a Senior Makom staff member, Simcha Ackerman. As in all our classrooms, we emphasize treating each individual with kindness and respect, as well as the development of concentration, order, coordination and independence. In addition to the Montessori method, this unique, engaging experience introduces children to important elements of Judaism including: Shabbat Major Jewish Holidays & Festivals Jewish music & food Hebrew
